Parents Tell Four-Year-Old She's Not Special, Just 'Adequate Enough to Pay Rent Someday'
SEATTLE - Tired of their four-year-old daughter "bragging" about wanting to be a princess, local mother Mindy Pinkerton and father Daniel Pinkerton crushed their daughters hopes and dreams by explaining "it's about time she grows up" and realizes that she's not special and will just be "adequate enough to pay rent someday."
Mindy Pinkerton explained that it began when David heard their daughter stated for the fifth time that evening, “I’m going to be a princess.”
Daniel Pinkerton reportedly sighed, set down his IPA, and said flatly, “No, you’re not.”
"If I can't be a princess," said Katie, "Can I be a doctor?"
"No," responded David sternly.
As a concerned look came across Katie's face, Mindy stopped reading her book and said to her daughter, "Katie with any luck you'll marry some loser, work a 9 to 5 the rest of your miserable existence, be adequate enough to pay rent someday in a cramped studio apartment, and listen to your daughter wine about being a princess all day. And that's if you're lucky."
"Listen to your mother," said Daniel. "She followed her dreams. Now she has a liberal arts degree and seasonal affective disorder."
